The New Vineyard In Kent!

Looking for a new vineyard in the South East of Kent to try? Allow us to introduce ourselves. We’re Wildshark Vineyard, nestled in the North Downs, off the A20 in Harrietsham, Kent. First vines were planted in 2022 and we’re currently entering into our first full year of business.

There are a LOT of vineyards in Kent, over 200, so we know that it’s a competitive world out there. Here’s how we’re standing out. We pride ourselves on being an eco-friendly, sustainable vineyard in Kent. Not only have we hit the jackpot with our land; breath-taking views, wild meadows, springs, viewing points and more, but we’re making a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustaining the unique biodiversity of the property is an extremely important part of our ethos. Wildflowers have been planted in every second row of vines at the vineyard. By doing this, we encourage our partner insects to pollinate the flowers whilst the plants themselves enrich the soil.

We have regenerated the old watercress beds and have planted a diverse range of native bulbs, flowers, trees and ferns in the surrounding area. We have also replanted native hawthorn and mixed hedgerows, as well as many native trees all around the site to encourage bird species that have been in decline for many years. Bee hives have been introduced into the woods to help pollinators but they also have the benefit of producing sun-enriched natural honey. There are now owl boxes in the woods which make wonderful homes for local owls to bring up their offspring. The stream and lake have also been restocked with trout.

5 types of grapes are being grown at the vineyard including Bacchus, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris. As well as wines, we are offering a collection of Artisan Gins. Supporting local Kentish produce is a passion of ours. We offer all of our wines and gins in our brand new shop, on top of this we’re working in partnership with local businesses offering candles, diffusers, honey, chocolate, oils, jams & chutneys and more.

We have a number of different food options to pair with your tour. From afternoon tea to picnics to BBQ’s – we do our very best to make sure everything you’re eating is locally and sustainably sourced. Local Kentish cheeses, charcuterie and meat, lovely-baked cakes as well as the very best of Kentish fresh fruit and veg.

Kentish vineyards are on the rise as is English Wine. Drinking English wine is so important for a number of reasons. By drinking sustainably, you’re reducing your carbon footprint. Your wine isn’t imported, pumped full of sulphites and kept in tankers for potentially months at a time. Your wine is grown, vinificated and bottled within 30 miles of the vineyard. Your wine is cleaner, you’ll notice no hangovers (WIN!). Our wine is delivered in 80% recycled material boxes with zero plastic – even down to our tape – we’re not cutting any corners here. Our goal is to break the stigma of English wine, to make our vineyard in Kent affordable to visit and enjoy as well as offering our wines at an attractive price point.

In conclusion, it’s a no brainer to step into the world of Kentish wine and vineyards – get to know what it’s all about, hey, it may even become a passion of yours!
